My escape from self-centeredness

Tristan Harris on Humane Technology and Social Media Impact

I came across Tristan Harris and the Center for Humane Technology through reading the work of Cal Newport. After learning of the behavioral engineering behind our apps I changed my phone to black and white. When I started feeling ghost vibrations in my pocket I turned off just about all notifications. I’m not a technology hater, viewing social media as a tool that adds value to my life through fitness (Strava) and curating a professional presence (LinkedIn). This documentary strikes a nuanced position that paints social media as both utopia and dystopia, from those that developed the technology.
